Contest Entry: Rick is GLaDOS?Rick overlooked the facility that was now his and thought deeply. He wasn't much of a science person but he still had that "itch" to test and it was killing him almost completely to the point it would be mentally crippling if he wasn't a machine. Throughout the course of thinking, however, he thought up "fun" tests that involved danger and a more adventurous-type of environment. Subjects swung from ropes and if they failed to land (since they weren't provided with Long Fall Boots) they would end up in some sort of toxic substance that would either dissolve them instantly or in the very least case, singe and burn off skin and hair. He soon found that using the technology at Aperture, the itch lessened until he provided more extreme tests for the subjects in which most were killed. He came upon a shortage of test subjects and found two robots, one a short fat one, and a tall skinny one. He used these to test instead while refilling his supply of warm bodies, finding that watching the rob
What Has Become of Me - Clu
Upon his arrival at Kevin Flynn's apartment with Rinzler, Jarvis, and two of his sentries, Clu surmised he would have some sort of evidence of Flynn's whereabouts. The lit lift took them up into the dark apartment, and once docked, Clu stepped forward and then onto the raised floor, which lit upon having the weight of Clu's foot put upon it. His posse stayed slightly behind after Clu paused to take in the surroundings. The stagnant silence in the room was only pierced by Rinzler's odd growling noise. He gave a small laugh and shifted his weight slightly to step to the side by a fraction. "Cozy.." He remarked, walking forward until he reached a stout cylindrical pillow sat on a square one, crouching down to feel at the odd fabric. He returned to full height, walking over to the marble-like mantlepiece, hesitantly picking up one of the spiky Yoshimoto cubes, and it made a very soft pinging sound as it was picked up. Soon after, as if triggered by the lifting of the Yoshimoto cube, Jarvis
IowaIf you visit Iowa,
you'll call her fields empty,
but she wasn't born that way.
A part of her was carved out
when she was ripped between Virginia
and the purple mountains of New Mexico.
Her gold hair, she tore it out when she realized
it didn't make her a princess.
She laid her locks strung along every road
leading somewhere else.
White hairs on her cheeks
are scars from winter.
Her hair darkens with the dampness
of summer rains.
The storms are never silent,
but neither is life when there's a tear
in your childhood where
a parent ought to be.
I've been flooded by Iowa's sorrow.
The only way I can distract her from her own voided landscape
is if I hate myself harder than she cries.
She just wants to fly
and I want to bus or train,
not because I fear death, but because
I want to take living slow.
It's the only way I ever feel.
From the air it's hard to watch Earth's hips move.
But Earth can't compare to the country.
That's my girl.
Full grown even when harvesting season's j
To depression, for creating days without endWake up to the realization that you've been awake
for seconds, minutes, hours.
You've been awake in this warm, dark room
and you don't know how long it's been
but now you're conscious
and it starts again--
the pain, strong and steady, in your chest.
You gain consciousness in this too warm morning
and your thoughts whir in endless loops
because it's either that or face the weight in your chest.
Light breaks though the window, soft and unwelcome
but you take it as a reluctant gift--
a new distraction from the feelings awake in your chest.
Awake, but not conscious.
So you think yourself in circles a little while longer
waiting for those quiet pains
(the constant reminder)
to gain consciousness.
